Christian Meditation is a way of prayer. It is not a remedy for mental health problems or a replacement for professional treatment. However, research shows that regular practice of meditation does bring many health benefits: reduced stress and anxiety, improvement in mood and sleep, greater resilience and hopefulness.
When we begin to meditate the motivation is often a simple desire to feel better, to be relieved of the distress which besets us.
But as we persevere with the practice we discover to our surprise that we are being blessed with a new sort of healing, a healing which runs deeper than the reduction of symptoms that we looked for initially. In the silence of meditation we begin to know in the depths of our being that we are loved and accepted, that we are held by a gentle power which transcends fear and can never leave us. It is there that we begin to realise who we are and what the meaning of our life is.
